Editorial Policy & Standards
These standards apply to everything published on News Paper Joint.
Accuracy and sourcing
We rely on primary sources: government agencies (NWS, NOAA, BLS, EIA, the Federal Reserve, FDA, NHTSA, CPSC, USGS, FAA), official league data and court and legislative records. Data pages state their source and update time. Reported stories identify sources by name wherever possible; anonymous sourcing requires the approval of the Editor-in-Chief.
Independence
Editors and writers may not accept gifts, payment or favors from people or organizations they cover. Advertising and editorial are separate; advertisers never review stories before publication.
Opinion and analysis
Opinion is labelled. An "Editor's take" on a story is the named editor's own analysis and is kept separate from the factual report.
Automation
Some reports are generated from official data by software and are bylined NPJ Data Desk. They follow these same accuracy rules and are corrected the same way. Details: How We Use Automation.
Corrections
We correct errors promptly and note the correction on the story. See our Corrections Policy.
Diversity of viewpoint and fairness
We seek comment from people and organizations we write about critically, and we cover political topics without endorsing candidates or parties.
